Kolibri Studios
Designing for Teachers with Limited Wi-Fi Access
Feature Design

Under the Menon Labs EdTech Fellowship, I collaborated with a team of 4 developers to prototype a feature for Learning Equality’s Kolibri platform.
At the time, the Kolibri platform prioritized crafting taxonomy and the discoverability of content—the ability of teachers in countries with limited internet access to quickly find and download specific and relevant educational resources for their students.
We worked under the following constraints to prototype a new feature to allow teachers to quickly filter educational resources.
Alignment with global educations systems (not standardized).
Limited user research (provided by the Kolibri team).
Limited design resources, as the prior interface was similar to an Excel Sheet.
Offline-first access and distribution (limited internet access to download educational resources via Raspberry Pi).
Update: as of 2024, Learning Equality has continued to build upon the Kolibri platform, and is installed in 220+ countries and territories. In 2022, Menon Labs become Hyphen, a training platform for consultants.
